What is
Ionized Water and What are the Health Benefits
Associated with It.
The Earth is covered
by 70% of water and can be found in various
forms from roaring oceans to majestic polar ice
caps, to cotton white clouds, and rainwater.
Without water no life on
earth can exist. This makes water the true
elixir of life. So, what is water? It is a
liquid compound of hydrogen and oxygen, H2O that
is transparent, tasteless, odorless, boils at
100oC and freezes at 0oC. Water is the one
essential element for all forms of life.
The Earth is covered by 70% of water and can be
found in various forms from roaring oceans to
majestic polar ice caps, to cotton white clouds,
and rainwater. On Earth, water continuously
flows through what is known as the water cycle,
which involves precipitation, and runoff into
our lakes, rivers, and oceans, then evaporation,
which in turns causes more precipitation.
Portable or drinking water is that, which is
intended to for human consumption and because
water can contain other substances, it can taste
and smell very differently.
Most humans are made up of approximately 55% to
78% water. Newborns have the most water, at
approximately 78%, which decreases to about 65%
by one year of age. The bodies of health adult
men are approximately 60% water. However, it
must be noted here that fat tissue does not
contain as much water as lean tissue. Therefore
because women have a higher fat content then
men, the bodies of adult women are only 55%
water. This is also true with overweight men.
Our bodies must have water to function properly.
The average human requires approximately 2.7
liters of water for women and 3.7 liters of
water for men a day in order to avoid
dehydration. Each person’s ideal water
consumption depends on how active that
individual is, along with other factors such as
temperature, humidity and health factors.
Humans need water to survive, however we live on
a planet that 70% of it is covered with water.
So, what’s that problem you may be asking? The
problem is that though 70% of the Earth is
covered by water, 97% is salt water. In truth,
the Earth only has approximately 3% fresh water
to meet the needs for survival for all living
things. However, we have to take into
consideration that two-thirds of this three
percent is frozen in the forms of polar icecaps
and glaciers, reducing the amount of available
fresh water to only 1%. Humans and most animals
require water, which does not contain too much
of salt or other contaminates such as chemicals,
metals, or harmful bacteria.
Many fresh water sources are suitable for humans
to drink, while others contain contaminates that
can cause long-term health problems. In order to
know if a water source is drinkable or not,
there are several water analyzers and special
testers available, that can test the quality of
the water. Some of the impurities these kits can
test for include bacteria, Pesticide, Nitrate,
Nitrite, Iron, Chlorine, Copper, Alkalinity, pH,
and Lead. Many kits include clear and simple
directions with easy to follow steps to assure
reliable test results. If a fresh water supply
is contaminated, the water will then need to be
treated and purified before it can be used for
human consumption.
Nearly every country around the world has set
water quality guidelines, which must be met for
water to be sold as portable water. There are
several methods of purifying and enhancing
water, including the use of various filters such
as sediment filters, carbon filters, Omni pure
filters, water softeners, and water distillers.
However, the most common method is alkaline
ionization. A water ionizer is an instrument,
which through electrolysis ionizes the water
making it more alkaline. This method was first
introduced in Japan over thirty years ago.
The ionizer is made up of distillers and filters
along with an ionizing chamber. When the water
passes through the negative ionizing chamber,
alkaline minerals that have a positive electrode
will migrate into the chamber with negative
electrode. These positively charged alkaline
minerals replace the hydrogen ions (H+) and
combine with hydroxyl ions (OH-) in H2O. The
Hydrogen ions then migrate to the negative
electrode, where they loss their positive
charge, becoming neutral (H2) hydrogen
molecules.
A similar process occurs with acid minerals when
water passes through the positive electrode
chamber. The acid minerals replace the hydroxyl
(OH-) ions and combine with hydrogen ions (H+)
in H2O. The hydroxyl ions then migrate to the
positive electrode, where they lose their
negative charge, becoming water (H2O) and oxygen
(O2). Both the negative and positive electrode
chambers remain electrically neutral.
Countless individuals claim that drinking
ionized water provides health benefits including
that ionized water is more readily absorbed by
the body than ordinary water, and that minerals
contained in ionized water are also more readily
absorbed by the body.
However, there is no solid scientific or medical
evidence to prove or disprove these claims.
Keeping the body properly hydrated will improve
ones complexion, drinking eight ounces of water
before each meal will help curve your appetite
and will help you lose weight. Alkaline water
does make rice fluffier, and it does clean dirt
and oil from the skin better. The human body
does need calcium and magnesium to maintain
healthy bones.
